CAPE: Cuba Hurricane Appeal
From August 28-Sep 8, 2008, within 10 days Cuba bore the brunt of two severe and devastating hurricanes, Gustav and Ike, between them wrecking a debilitating path of destruction over the entire length of Cuba. There will be many permaculture projects including urban agriculture, farms and school gardens seriously impacted by the hurricanes and subsequent flooding.
CAPE is launching an appeal for donations to assist the permaculture community in Cuba restore their facilities and production systems destroyed and damaged by the hurricanes. CAPE is seeking advice from FANJ and Cuban authorities regarding appropriate support we can provide for the recovery and reconstruction program.
Roberto Sanchez is currently visiting permaculture projects in the most effected provinces. We will provide ongoing updates as news comes to hand. Agriculture in Cuba has been decimated by the 2 hurricanes resulting in serious food shortages and massive loss of valuable export crops.
