Cuba-Australia Permaculture Exchange Partnership Agreement Signed in Havana Robyn Francis
The Cuba-Australia Permaculture Exchange entered a new phase with the signing of a formal partnership agreement on Tuesday June 30 in Havana. The agreement between Erda Institute Inc (Australia) and the Antonio Núñez Jiménez Foundation of Nature and Humanity (known as FANJ) in Havana was signed by FANJ president, Liliana Nuñez Velis and myself (Robyn Francis) on behalf of Erda Institut during my recent visit to Cuba.

Cuba Hurricane Disaster Update - Sept 2008
In what has been described as the greatest disaster to hit this island nation of 11 million people, the combined impacts of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike have wrought massive destruction throughout Cuba. Within less than 10 days Gustav and Ike inflicted devastating winds, rain and flooding from Baracoa in the east, to Pinar del Rio province in the west, the latter receiving the full impact of the eye of both hurricanes. This report summarises the initial official damage assessment, posted in response to the numerous enquiries from Permaculture supporters seeking news on the current situation in Cuba.

CAPE: Cuba Hurricane Appeal
From August 28-Sep 8, 2008, within 10 days Cuba bore the brunt of two severe and devastating hurricanes, Gustav and Ike, between them wrecking a debilitating path of destruction over the entire length of Cuba. There will be many permaculture projects including urban agriculture, farms and school gardens seriously impacted by the hurricanes and subsequent flooding.
CAPE is launching an appeal for donations to assist the permaculture community in Cuba restore their facilities and production systems destroyed and damaged by the hurricanes. CAPE is seeking advice from FANJ and Cuban authorities regarding appropriate support we can provide for the recovery and reconstruction program.
Roberto Sanchez is currently visiting permaculture projects in the most effected provinces. We will provide ongoing updates as news comes to hand. Agriculture in Cuba has been decimated by the 2 hurricanes resulting in serious food shortages and massive loss of valuable export crops.
