Nimbin & Accommodation

nimbinvalley - 100Nimbin Village & District

Nimbin lies in the heart of the Bundjalung Nation in the lands of the Wyabul peoples. The Nimbin valley is surrounded by ancient sacred sites and lush subtropical rainforests on the southern side of the Wollumbun  Caldera (Mount Warning) in the headwaters of the Wilsons and Richmond River system.

Nimbin has developed an international profile as a focal point for alternative initiatives, sustainable lifestyle, communities, appropriate technlogy, arts and culture since the Aquarius Festival in 1973 commenced the revitalisation of a dying rural village.

nightcaprngepanorama - 200Numerous Nimbin projects and initiatives have been at the forefront of sustainable innovation and community development including Jarlanbah Eco-hamlet, Djanbung Gardens Permaculture and the Rainbow Power Company.

Nimbin is located central to the wider North Coast bioregion, known as the Rainbow Region, leading the way in organic production, environmental initiatives, new sustainable enterprise development and creative visual and performing arts.

The village provides a wide range of services including post office, ATM & EFT-Post, shopping, organic green grocer & health foods, entertainment, medical & health services, Centrelink agency and cultural activities. Nimbin is 30km from the regional City of Lismore and has a daily shuttle-bus connection with Byron Bay.

Nimbin is exceptionally diverse and embodies a sense of community rarely found in contemporary society. Nimbin lies on the southern hills of the Wollumbin (Mount Warning) caldera, an area of intense natural beauty surrounded by World-Heritage-listed subtropical rainforests of the Nightcap and Border Ranges National Parks.

Djanbung Gardens is less than 1 km (10-15 minute walk) from the heart of Nimbin village.

Nimbin is 30km from Lismore, regional city servicing the NSW North Coast. Lismore is home to Southern Cross University, regional NR TAFE campus, Northern Rivers Conservatorium of Music, Soil Food Web and a wealth of resources and services.
